Do you want to serve the Lord, but find it just too hard to be good enough? Do our good deeds really need to outweigh our bad, or is a sincere desire good enough?
After God delivered the children of Israel from slavery, parted the red sea for them, gave them manna every day, water from a rock, and made them His special people, the people said, “All that the Lord has spoken we will do.” (Exodus 19:8)
And then what? They said they were afraid to even listen to God (Ex.20:19-21), and they whined and complained, grumbled, disobeyed, and wandered...
So are we any different? ‘Fraid not, my friend. That is why God said in Ezekiel 36:26-27: “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them.”

Being raised in a Christian home is a special blessing. I appreciate that very much. Although I grew up knowing that Christ is my Savior, I was well into my adulthood before an appreciation for exactly who Jesus is, and what He has done and is doing for me, started to set in. Understanding my salvation, loving and appreciating saving grace, wanting to go to heaven for eternity, I discovered, does not mean that I really understand or truly appreciated my Savior. Wanting to spend an eternity with no backaches, bills, or car trouble, does not mean that I truly want to spend an eternity understanding the mysteries of Christ’s love for me.
Growing up in a Christian home and going to church every week has not had any effect on my salvation or the depths to which God loves me (and you). The accomplishment of my salvation has always been, and will always be, 100% God and 0% me.
A study of who Jesus is, the character of God, helped me to understand what Jesus has died to save me from. Understanding that Christ walked this earth as a Man, and died as sin-ridden me, helped me to understand that Jesus did far more than take my punishment for sin. Jesus has given me, and all who will accept it, the power to be free from sin, not just its penalty, but sin itself.
The thing is, this is not all that appealing until you really get to know Christ’s true character. As you get to know Jesus, you will fall into an amazing, intimate and infinite love that can be shared with no other. You can trust Him with secrets you would not dare tell anyone else. You can count on Him 24/7 to be with you. You can trust that He ALWAYS has your best interest at heart. He is NEVER selfish. I am telling you this because I am experiencing it.
When you get to know and love somebody a lot, you crave being around them more, and you start to act like them, saying things they would say and doing things you know they like. I want to be like Jesus. I am an author for the sole purpose of directing and introducing others to our real Author: Jesus Christ. It is His hands that have formed us. He has marvelous plans of peace for you. Let your Author write His love and His thoughts on your heart. Jesus is the greatest story ever written, and I am blessed to repeat His story to you!
“Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:2
